Peter Illias, the Slovak artist behind Silk Royal's 37th release, is a rising progressive star, whose few releases thus far (on label affiliate Arrival Recordings) are notable for their poignancy, as well as their extremely high technical quality and sophistication. First up in this peak-hour progressive EP is "7 Days," which was first previewed on Jacob Henry & Tom Fall's Silk Royal Showcase 02 compilation. The track begins with a clubby beat and driving, trance-influenced bassline; soon thereafter, gorgeous piano and arp lines seem to "dance" through the mix. After a mini-break, in which an airy female vox effect is introduced (an Illias signature), the main synth theme of the track triumphantly cuts through the mix. In the main break, we are met with an extended piano solo, and once again, the drop treats us to the hypnotic lead melody, coupled with a dancefloor-killing bassline. The second track in the EP, "Let Me Be," was supported this past week on Above & Beyond's "Trance Around The World" radio show. The up-tempo drive of the track makes it a perfect opener for a trance set. Yet, house DJ's should not be deterred: this track, in fact, is more subdued than the lead single, and it could even be fairly branded as progressive house, as the percussion is chunkier and the bass a bit more funky. There's also a wonderful vocal hook throughout the song -- the titular "let me be" -- as well as variety of other lush, melodic, and deeply evocative sounds, most of which are highlighted in the main break.
